Cover Card

The image on the card symbolizes the soulful connection between the Heavenly Spirit and the earth and our meditation upon their constant exchange. The feminine figure sits on the lotus leaf of the purest perfection, gazing at the beauty of the nighttime sky. She knows that ‘home’ is not just a physical place in the outside world, but also of an inner quality of acceptance of herself and the serenity of that knowing. The stars, the rocks, all living beings including the trees, the flowers, fish and birds---are our brothers and sisters in this wild dance of life. We human beings tend to forget this, as we pursue our own private agendas and believe we must fight to get what we need. But ultimately, our sense of separateness is just an illusion, manufactured by the narrow preoccupations of the ego’s level of mind.

Now is the time to look at whether we are allowing ourselves to receive the extraordinary gift of feeling ‘at home’ wherever you are. If you are, be sure to take time to savor it so it can deepen and remain with you. If on the other hand, if you’ve been feeling like the world is out to get you, it’s time to take a break. Go for a walk in nature and go outside tonight and look at the stars.

You are not an accident. Without you there would be a hole in the fabric of existence. You cannot be replaced. Because you are a divine being, you have a place of dignity, a small place in the cosmos that cannot be filled by anyone but you. You are related to existence and existence cares for you. Once you are clear about this you will feel a divine love that flows over you like warm water…flows inside of you and as well as the outside.

In traditional decks, the Roman numeral I of the Major Arcana is the archetype of The Magician and represents the principle of communication that is inspired and well-timed. At the higher levels of the Magician archetype, there is a purity of soul, an understanding of how to commune with the higher energies of the cosmos and then to manifest them into the earthly level. The Magicians deeds come in service to all of us and to all of creation.

"Living in the present doesn't mean hedonistic irresponsibility about the future---shouting "Carpe diem!" as you fall drunk down the stairs and pretend there won't be consequences in the morning. Of course nowness doesn't abolish the sequence of cause and effect, but it radically shifts the way we experience it. Every time we look it's still now, but we go from now to now as if crossing a stream on stepping-stones; we must step alertly, with surefooted balance."

Editor's Notes

Dear Toni:
We have been overwhelmed and delighted with the number of women who are eager to have a larger voice, and it’s our mission to help create the vehicles that will provide that opportunity.

We are now recruiting hosts for WomensRadio Programs at WomensRadio.com. Coming soon will be an opportunity to be aired on our Channel that will be syndicated to thousands of other Websites, including those of other media.

Whether or not women already have broadcasting experience—in “real” radio or on the Net – there is an opportunity to participate and grow. Women who are currently broadcasters will find an opportunity to expand in a way that has not been available here to date – in a Channel that will be distributed to thousands of other Websites reaching millions of other women – even on the Websites of “real” radio, television and other terrestrial media.

Women, who would like to grow into that opportunity will have a chance to be “incubated” at WomensRadio, receive training and feedback that can provide an experience seldom available in real radio. When their program is given the green light, it too can be included in the Channel.

WomensRadio showcases our women broadcasters on our main Radio Programs page in categories so that our audience can easily choose the programs. We will also be using our large database of press contacts to pump out information to a larger general audience through national media.

Sincerely,
Pat Lynch
CEO and WomensRadio Editor in Chief

Dear Toni,
In his article The Healer Archetype, Dr Weil explores an important issue of who or rather, what is the agent of healing. As he points out, the healer may affect healing by stimulating, activating, or unblocking the innate healing capacity of the healed. In the environment of modern medicine, our natural tendency to look for an external agent of healing is strongly reinforced by repeated suggestions that medications and procedures provide the answer to all health problems. In such environment the “healer archetype” has to overcome not only his own inner temptation of taking credit for the healing, but also the enormous force of the one being healed who naturally attributes healing powers to the facilitator of healing. Accepting the credit for healing leads to fragmentation, first within the “healer” and then within the patient, even if a cure is achieved.

I would like to clarify the terminology used here. As Dr. Weil mentions—healing means literally making whole, according to the etymological root of the word. Healing thus would constitute unblocking the barriers that prevent wholeness. The word cure etymologically is related to word care and came to mean resolution of symptoms as a result of caring (physical and non-physical) and treatment—which is external and applied to the patient while the patient remains passive. When viewed with this perspective, one can see that a cure can occur with or without healing, and healing with of without a cure. Thus a false healer may effect a cure while increasing fragmentation—movement opposite of healing. Such cures are usually not lasting or are quickly substituted by other problems. As stated in the quotation from Paracelsus at the beginning of this article, “…if your heart is false, the physician within you will be false...” True humbleness is a way of keeping one’s heart true.

Toni,
I read with interest Rene’ Jackson’s article, “Intercessory Prayer: It’s Effects on Clinical Outcomes.”

A few more examples of study results that have been done on the subject would have been very helpful in actually assessing “the effects on clinical outcomes,” though.

I enjoy your web-site, and am looking forward to reading more alternative articles. They always stimulate thought, and are good for kicking off interesting discussions.

Toni,
Leigh (pronounced Lee) McCloskey is brilliant and inspired. [Regarding the Mandala Visual Essay] He is much more metaphysical, mystical and visionary than psychological. If approached from the point of view of archetypes of the soul and spirit then his work will be more approachable to therapists. He’s also a wonderful speaker.

I’ll be curious how his work will be received.

Toni,

I finally had the chance to go read your Journal. ;-) Very nice work there. I ended up joining Sandra Thomson’s Dining With The Archetypes e-group. That should be interesting!

Hi Toni,
It is good to see other holistic nursing practitioners as yourself. As a fellow Holistic Nurse, it warms my heart that our field is one of the leaders in mind-body-spirit healing. I am grateful for your website and your journal. Thank you for including my work and my article in your journal.

Warm wishes,

Toni,
I printed off the article on intercessory prayer. You put out a very attractive, readable, and accessible, on line-journal.
